It all began here
Hara Shick Architecture, P.C.’s roots extend to 1991
when Leslie Hara Shick and her brother, George Hara, combined their
collective energy and vision to open this small architectural
practice in the heart of Bend, OR. Their original goals of
establishing solid client/architect relationships through sound,
creative, & thoughtfully conceived architecture remain in place today
as this woman-owned, minority business enterprise continues to
evolve.
Our portfolio of work is
diverse
As advocates for projects that create stronger,
healthier and safer communities we have had the opportunity to work
in a number of rural Oregon towns such as Elkton, Echo, Fossil,
Moro, Monument, Madras, and Prineville on projects that typically
have provided valuable social services to those with the least means
of support. Many of these projects, and technical assistance
feasibility studies were funded wholly or in part by Oregon
Community Development Block Grant Awards & Rural Development.
“The Family Resource Center Team in Crook County was
most fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Hara Shick
Architecture, P.C. They provided a systematic approach to working on
the multitude of issues required in our planning process, which
included “visioning” with community partners, development of a
“footprint,” as well as assistance in finding appropriate sites…
While
adjustments are a natural part of such a process, the changing
nature of the key committee did add complications that required a
high degree of flexibility which George & Leslie provided…
They had
an excellent understanding of the complexities and nuances of
creating a space that presented a warm and inviting atmosphere, which
is critical to a Family Resource Center, while also having the
ability to incorporate the varied needs of multiple providers who
will be housed in the facility. In spite of last minute adjustments
given the changing nature of the team, Hara Shick promptly completed
all work. I highly recommend
this excellent team!”

Commercial and Mixed-Use
Projects
When we opened our doors fourteen years ago our town
was a smaller, calmer place. Today, the City of Bend is experiencing
amazing growth that can be seen just about everywhere from street
“roundabouts” to new residential subdivisions to ever-expanding
commercial and mixed-used development. Hara Shick Architecture, P.C.’s renovation & new construction projects highlight the
importance of density and the notion that these days, every square
foot counts.
Custom Residential &
Affordable Housing
Our love for housing by working closely with clients
to realize their “dream house” has been a mainstay in our practice
from the beginning. From a tire house located in the dry desert
landscape of Crooked River Ranch to a Northwest inspired custom
vacation home in Black Butte to affordable Senior Housing and an
Assisted Living Facility perched high above the Deschutes River, we
enjoy the active dialogue and client interaction that housing
projects provide. We work hand in hand with our clients during all
phases of the planning and design process to insure that
programmatic concerns, site issues, and budgetary constraints are
appropriately addressed. Because we believe listening and hearing
are integral to successful collaborative relationships, our client
base is growing and our project portfolio is ever-expanding. It is
our goal to provide service that reveals the clearest understanding
and appreciation of the building planning & design process.
Construction
Administration & Project Management
As the local associate architectural firm, HSA, P.C.
together with
Peck Smiley Ettlin Architects in Portland, OR, provided
programming for three new
Fire Stations for the City of Bend and
subsequent Construction Administration Services for the construction
of the three new
fire stations, a
training tower, and
a
remodel of an
existing fire station. Leslie Hara Shick worked with
Ralston
Architects, Portland, OR to provide Design & Construction Administration for
Bend’s
new Police Station.
“The success of
our construction was significantly due to the strong support we
received from Leslie Hara Shick. She exceeded our expectation in
helping us to accomplish our goals.”
Larry Langston,
Fire Chief, City of Bend
“These two companies (Hara Shick Architecture, P.C. &
Ralston Architects) have provided consistent, clear communication
to us as the owners and to the other contracting companies. Mr.
Ralston and Ms. Hara Shick in particular have been the driving force
in the entire project. They have ensured that every aspect of the
building project has moved smoothly and efficiently. They were
attentive throughout the project including programming, budgeting
and permits, neighborhood meeting and construction.”
